Lesson Plan

Purpose:

  • To use interesting adjectives
  • To demonstrate proper sequencing
  • To insert a header and footer
  • To create columns
  • To copy and paste images between different applications

Step by Step

Step 1 Read the book Frog in Winter, by Max Velthuijs.
Step 2 Discuss all of the things Max could have worn to make himself warmer.
Step 3 Show students an example of what they will be making. Tell them how they will be going between applications. Demonstrate how to do so using the "application" menu.
Step 4 Have students open a blank word processing page and insert a header and footer.
Step 5 Have them create 4 columns by clicking on the column button 3 times.
Step 6 Have students save and then go to Kid Pix.
Step 7 Have students open Frog in Winter template.
Step 8 Have students color in Frog.
Step 9 Have students use the moving truck and the magnet option to draw a box around their frog so that they can go to Edit.
Step 10 Have students go back to their word processing program, choose the graphics tool and paste frog into the first column.
Step 11 Have students create a text box next to Frog and write their first sentence about Frog. e.g. “When Frog woke up, he was freezing.” Go to File...Save.
Step 12 Go back to Kid Pix and add one piece of clothing to frog. Use moving truck to select frog and go to Edit...Copy.
Step 13 Go back to word processing. Paste under the first frog. Make another text box and write 2 sentences about Frog: e.g. First Frog put on some bright polka dot shorts. He was still freezing. Require students to use an adjective to describe the article of clothing. Go to File...Save.
Step 14 Continue to go back and forth between Kid Pix and the word processing program until he has 6 pieces of clothing on. Encourage students to start their sentence in various ways such as : Next, Then, After that, Finally, Last.
Step 15 Have students do a spell check and adjust the sizes of Frog so that they are consistent.
