Lesson Plan

Purpose:

  • To create a report or study guide and publish in the form of a mini book
  • To use 1 sheet of paper to create an 8 page book
  • To rotate text within a layout

Step by Step…

Step 1 Students will make a piece of their writing into a mini-book.
Step 2 Open mini-book template.
Step 3 This template contains 8 text boxes preset and locked in place.
Step 4 Page 1 is for the title. The title should be centered within the text box. Discuss with students size and choice of font. Consider putting a graphic on the cover page as well. Remember to carefully choose the graphic tool when adding a graphic to your document.

Step 5

Plan out which parts of your report will be on each of the 6 pages.
Step 6 Begin adding text to page 2. Notice how you are working in an upside down text box. When you are actually working in the box, it is oriented correctly for you to read. It flips back in place when you leave the text box.
Step 7 Use page 8 as an author's page. Add student's picture, name and a few sentences about themselves.
Step 8 Add graphics and borders to pages to create a unique and interesting layout.
Step 9 Cut paper along arrowed line. Do not cut the paper in half! Now fold the paper in half the long way. Next, fold the paper in half the short way. Make a tent fold on the lines between section 7 and 8 and sections 3 and 4 to create your mini-book. See illustration.
