Lesson Plan

Purpose:

  • To create an original graphic using the pencil tool and others
  • To use the keyboard
  • To write sentences with correct punctuation and capitalization
  • To write a sentence which tells about the picture
  • To import their own picture into the document

Step by Step…

Step 1

Read the story Draw Me a Star, by Eric Carle to the class. As you are reading it, talk about the purpose of each thing being drawn (people want a house so they can live in it).
Step 2 Demonstrate using the pencil tool to draw a picture. Tell students they will be writing a sentence in which they will need to tell why they drew it. Write the sentence starter on the board "Draw me a star so___."
Step 3 Encourage students to use the paint bucket to color in their picture with colors and patterns like the book illustrator.
Step 4 Using the typewriter tool and the sentence starter on the board, students write a sentence telling what they drew and what they will do with it.
Step 5 Students open the shared folder, find their picture, copy and paste in their document.
Step 6 Students can add details to their picture using stamps or other kid pix tools. (This is a great project to print and make into a class book the students can read in their classroom! Have students share their work with others in the class.)
