What is Title I?

Title I is the largest Federal aid to education program.

  • It aims to ensure that poor and educationally disadvantaged students have additional support to help them meet high academic standards.

  • The Madison Metropolitan School District received $3.2 million in Title I funds for the 2000-01 school year.

  • 19 Madison Elementary Schools receive Title I support.

  • Title I programs in Madison emphasize early intervention in reading.
