Summary of October 24, 2005 Board of Education Meetings

Meetings on Monday,  10/24  (at West High): 
5:00  Partnerships  a look at MSCR (Madison School Community Recreation) programming
5:45  Long Range Planning   staff presented updates from the 2 task forces
6:00  Special Bd. Meeting
  1. The Board approved moving the bus routes for Spring Harbor to First Student bus company.  Because the number of routes was reduced from 6 to 5, there will be a cost savings to the district of about $177,000.  Another $100,000 may be saved by not having attendants on the bus, unless they are needed.
  2. Final adoption of the 2005-06 budget  because of the $8.6 million of cuts that the Board made last spring along with the increase in state aid provided by Governor Doyle, the district's tax levy will go DOWN by $2 million, the mil rate will go down to $10.43  with an estimated decrease in school property taxes of $137 on the average home. (The Board cannot spend any additional dollars without approval via referendum.)
