Women's Cancer Rights

On an annual basis we must inform you as a requirement of the Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998 that the District's health plans comply.

The law requires that all health plans offering mastectomy coverage must also provide benefits for:

1. Reconstruction of the breast having undergone the mastectomy
2. Surgery and reconstruction on the other breast to improve breast symmetry
3. Prosthesis and treatment of physical complications at any state of the mastectomy, including lymph edemas.

These benefits are subject to the same deductibles or co-payments as other covered surgery within the health plan.
