MMSD-TV Launches New Web Services

$story_data->{subheadline}

Affordable technology has made it possible for MMSD's Media Production Department to bring its award-winning cable TV programs such as "S'NEWS" and "Making the Grade" as well as Board of Education regular monthly meetings to worldwide web surfers.

New services available on the MMSD-TV website are:

STREAMING MEDIA:
Just click on an image and the video will open with QuickTime player at your desktop. For Board of Education meetings, a handy agenda item menu allows you to jump to specific segments of the meetings.

PODCASTS:
As reported by the BBC News, "The term 'podcast' has been declared Word of the Year by the New Oxford American Dictionary."

Similar to an online news service, monthly podcasts (MP3 audio files) of MMSD-TV programs such as "A Conversation" make it possible to take interviews with Madison School Board members on the road in your i-Pod or MP3 player, or listen right at your desktop.

VIDCASTS:
MMSD-TV programs are also available as vidcasts. By subscribing to the vidcast, the most recent edition of the video will automatically download to your computer when you go to the website.

It won't be long before handheld video players are as ubiquitous as portable transistor radios in the 1960's.

MMSD-TV SCHEDULE & PROGRAM INFO:
Did you miss out on that great speaker recently in town? Find out if it's showing on MMSD-TV 10. The new Media Production website allows you to do a title search of Channels 10 & 19 programming.

A HITCH IN YOUR GIDDYAAP?
These new features require a download of QuickTime 7 and work best with Windows XP, a broadband connection and i-Tunes. Every new technological endeavor has its problems. Please help us refine this service. Send your feedback to gmiller@madison.k12.wi.us.

Thanks to the ingenuity of Media Production department's newest team member, Gray Miller, with help from Dan Pruski in the Technical Services department, the wonderful programs originally created for MMSD-TV Cable Channel 10 are now available to all staff and to the world via the Internet.
