Improved Employee Safety Saves Dollars

Doug Johnson, Budget and Planning Services

The numbers of work related injuries, days worked on restricted duty assignments (lighter work load due to temporary partial disability) and lost work days for District employees all dropped significantly in 2005. These improvements are due to increased efforts by the District's insurance company and our employees, to create a safer working environment in our schools.

Besides a safer working environment, these improvements led to a 17% drop in the cost of our Worker's Compensation insurance. This drop saved the District approximately $200,000 this year; dollars that were used to maintain programs and jobs. This data reflects work related injuries incurred by employees in all employment categories.
