Nancee Killoran, Educational Assistant, Hawthorne
Elementary
Nancee Killoran has been educational assistant at Hawthorne Elementary for
about 12 years. Nancee happily greets students as they enter school and as
they play at lunch. Nancee maintains the safe arrival system, assists in
the LMC and makes everything run smoothly. Nancee composes and edits the
school newsletter, the Hawthorne Connection, and willingly takes on extra
projects, most notably book and papermaking. Nancee is co-founder of The
60 Books Project which is available through the South Central Library
System. Thank you, Nancee, for sharing your great spirit and talents with
all of us at Hawthorne!
Susan Van Sicklen, 4/5 SAGE and PACE (Positive Attitude Creative
Expression) Teacher, Emerson Elementary
Susan is one of many outstanding staff members at Emerson Elementary
School. In her 4/5 classroom, she communicates high but achievable
expectations for each student and displays an enthusiasm for teaching.
Collaboration and creativity are key elements of Susan's instructional
strategies. Susan supports student engagement through her facilitation of
Emerson's daily announcements,classroom volunteers, mentoring, student
council and writing club. Her most recent accomplishment is the
development of Emerson's PACE (Positive Attitude Creative Expression) class
which supports 4th and 5th grade students in resolving conflict through
drama. Susan is definitely one of a kind and Emerson is lucky to have her!
Sue Cotter, Quality Asssurance Specialist, Food
Service
Sue is a self starter, she knows her field and sees issues that need to be
addressed. She has a quiet agreeable personality that allows her to get
people to change their methods without them getting angry about it. Good
solid follow through, with every issue, is another of Sue's qualities that
is key for this position. Whether Sue is working with the City Health
Department, giving a tour to elementary students or working with a supplier
on a product recall, she is always a professional.
Debbie Lynch, Food Service, Franklin Elementary
Debbie Lynch is Franklin's OUTSTANDING food service support person. She
greets each child with a positive attitude each day and collaborates with
staff in the best interest of ALL students.
Sheryl Brown, 2nd grade teacher, Sandburg Elementary
This 2nd grade teacher at Sandburg School makes building a sense of
community in her classroom a high priority. Her gentle and caring
teaching style is greatly appreciated by students and their family members.
She is one of the many reasons why Sandburg School is where children learn
for life.
Sarah Moore, Teacher, CRIS (Credit Recovery and Increasing Skills),
West High
Sarah teaches in the districtwide CRIS program, based at West HS and in
which students receive computer based instruction through online courses
and PLATO. Sarah is new to us, having previously taught online learning in
Chicago Public Schools where she worked with "at risk" students. High
energy, enthusiasm and the ability to create a safe, respectful classroom
allow Sarah to be uniquely successful with a difficult population of
students. Welcome, Sarah.
