Beverly Lange, 2/3 Teacher, Schenk Elementary
Bevery Lange has been a teacher for 37 years. She will be retiring from Schenk Elementary School this spring, where she is currently a 2/3 teacher. Bev has been a leader on her team, can always be counted on for providing a unique perspective and fresh ideas, and is a master at her profession. She is highly respected by her peers, and is loved by her students and families. Losing her to retirement next year will be a great loss to Schenk.

Greg Valaskey, physical education teacher and head football coach, West High
He led the Regents to the city and the conference football championships in his first year. He's a great team player, is very soft-spoken and gets the job done at a very high level.

Maureen Conklin, Library Media Specialist, Sherman Middle
Maureen has worked to turn the Sherman LMC into the hub of the school, making it a welcoming space to learn for both students and staff. As a LMC specialist, Maureen spends time getting to know the students as learners and works to find the perfect book for each Sherman student. Maureen prioritzes the needs of staff by locating resources for them and constantly looking for ways to expand our professional library. Maureen's commitment to Sherman students and Sherman staff is unwavering.

Theron Sorgatz, Learning Coordinator, Spring Harbor
Theron re-joined Spring Harbor this year as Learning Coordinator. In his previous life, he was our Band Director from 1997-2001. Theron has made an easy transition into his new role. He is able to multi-task in style, always with a smile on his face. He brings a warm and friendly demeanor to the building and always goes above and beyond the call of duty.

Elena Meyer, Bilingual Resource Specialist, Stephens Elementary
In her role as Bilingual Resource Specialist, Elena is a strong and tireless advocate for children and families. She goes far beyond the typical responsibilities outlined in her job description by doing everything she can to foster a sense of connection between our school and our Spanish-speaking families. Leadership roles Elena has taken on this year include coaching performers for the school talent show, organizing our first Spanish Spelling Bee, and sharing her knowledge of Latino cultures with many classrooms of Stephens students.

Mary Kay Johnson, Instructional Resource Teacher, Midvale Elementary
Mary Kay is an integral part of the cultural fabric that makes up Midvale. She is an expected and welcoming figure each and every morning at our front entrance, where she greets each student by name and with a friendly smile. Whether she's interfacing with the UW helping to coordinate the school's teacher education program, spearheading the implementation of new curricula, giving a Tuesday Tour to prospective new kindergarten parents, or teaching an after school class to students on scrap booking, Mary Kay does it all. She is certainly one of the key figures that defines who we are at Midvale.
