Success stories from the successful Combined Campaign

MMSD staff members,

This is the first in a series of success stories from non-profit organizations which benefit from donations through the MMSD/MTI Combined Campaign.

Current MMSD employees and retirees, you showed through your donations what caring for our community, our environment and our students is all about.

"I like to draw pictures of the animals from the story," says Amaya, a local preschool student.

The story she's talking about was part of a backpack of literacy tools she took home to work on with her mother. As part of Preschools of Hope, they worked through the activities in the backpack and increased Amaya's literacy skills.

United Way and Preschools of Hope partners like Dane County, the City of Madison, and Madison Schools are reaching out to children to set them up for success, both academically and socially.

"My mom and I have lots of fun," Amaya says.

What do your donations to the annual Combined Campaign provide?

$2 per month provides two bottles of an antibiotic medication for an uninsured child.

$4 per month provides tutor training for six new volunteers who will tutor 12 students in kindergarten through 3rd grade.

$4 per month provides one hour of small home repairs to three residences of seniors or people with disabilities, allowing them to continue living safely in their own homes.

$8 per month provides one pair of glasses for an uninsured child.
