Having computer problems...Who do you call? Technical Services' HelpDesk is your answer!

by Mark Evans, Director of Technical Services

It might surprise you to know that the Technical Services Division receives approximately 15,000 work order calls per year through our HelpDesk.

Although we prefer that people fill out convenient on-line work order requests whenever possible (look for the icon like this on your Novell screen), or go to the web http://dww.madison.k12.wi.us/ts/technicalsupport.htm and enter the work order electronically. Otherwise, call us at 663-5853!

Regardless, we manage a lot of work order requests! Distribution of these calls does vary through the year, as shown in the graph depicting the last seven months. August and September are usually our biggest months for calls, mainly due to so many calls from people who return from a summer away and seem to have forgotten a few things.

Some calls occasionally may seem particularly interesting. MicroTech Kelly Schuppener (pictured moving some Dell computers that are headed out to schools) said his favorite call was, "Can you help me? My club soda exploded all over the computer and now my screen is upside down." OK. That was an unusual call.

All 14 MicroTechs who service our 8,900 district computers have regularly scheduled visits to all 46 schools and the two administrative buildings, but they also service all of MMSD's alternative sites and care for computers used by the Board of Education.

Each MicroTech rotates each week spending time on the HelpDesk to answer your calls. We are AT YOUR SERVICE!
