The event was an AmeriCorps Service Learning project and was held in cooperation with National Youth Service Day. The coordinator of the project was Sara Winter, an AmeriCorps member serving at Lowell CLC.

The students performed and said a few words about their experience. Students worked with staff to write and produce an original rap song designed to inspire the school community to come together through music. The song was created to express the children's feelings about school. The students spent a lot of time discussing school issues, brainstorming ideas, organizing thoughts, writing lyrics and producing a song. Arthur Richardson, of Streets of Gold, provided the musical talent lead.

The MSCR East High School Diversity Dance Troupe (pictured) and Monica Monie Love Davidson also performed at the event.
