Vol. I No. 7 - June 2, 2006
A trio of educators is recommended to the Board of Education to become the new leaders of La Follette High School, O'Keeffe Middle School and the Department of Teaching and Learning.
John Broome, currently high school principal in the Charleston (IL) School District, has been selected for the principalship at La Follette, Kay Enright, currently chair of Guidance at East HS, has been tabbed to lead O'Keeffe, and Lisa Wachtel, currently the coordinator of Science and Environmental Education in Teaching and Learning, is recommended for promotion to become Executive Director of that department.
All three recommendations will be considered by the Board at their regular meeting on June 5. If approved, all three will begin their new duties July 1.
Broome has been a high school principal for nine years including four years at a high school in Gary, IN. A 23 year educator, Broome was an assistant principal and an English teacher at school districts in Indiana. Michael Meissen is leaving La Follette after 14 years as principal and 17 years in the district to become the superintendent at Glenbard Township High School District 87 in Glen Ellyn, IL.
Enright has been in guidance for seven years at East and previously for six years at Sherman MS and one year at Memorial HS. In addition to her guidance responsibilities at East, she has been the department chair there and the coordinator for the East location of the Diploma Completion Program. Enright has 2 master's degrees from UW-Madison: one in Counselor Education and the other in Educational Administration.
Patrick Delmore, principal at O'Keeffe for nine years and in the district for a total of 33 years, is retiring. Also retiring this summer is Mary Ramberg, who has led Teaching and Learning for the past eight years and was previously the principal at Cherokee MS for seven years.
Wachtel has been with the MMSD for ten years — the last eight in her current post. Previously, she was an instructional support teacher in the district and an elementary school learning resource teacher. Wachtel has a master's and a PhD from UW-Madison in Curriculum and Instruction — Science Education, and a school administrator's license from Edgewood College.
