MSCR - Touching many bases and celebrating 80 years

Nicole Graper, MSCR Marketing Specialist

MSCR is managing a busy summer - as of mid-July more than 31,000 participants are registered for a variety of summer programs. In addition to the traditional favorites like day camps, Art Cart and softball leagues, MSCR has several new programs which are going strong.

The pontoon program expects to serve more than 7, 000 this summer on 600 different boat excursions. Participants can enjoy the lakes with dinner boat trips, drop in rides and private tours. New trips for this year include Princess Days, Perseids Meteor Shower and Young Pilots.

MSCR is also proud to offer swimming lessons to more than 870 children at the new Goodman Pool in cooperation with the Madison City Parks Department.

New Stages is a new drama program for youth entering grades seven to twelve. This unique program gives students the opportunity to learn about the art of acting while performing on stage. The two-week workshop took place late June at the Memorial High School Auditorium. The troupe performed Give and Take, a dramatic comedy featuring stories from around the world that deal with generosity and greed. This program is a redesign of the old MSCR Stagecoach Players program which began in 1948.

The new Bowling Camp, held in cooperation with Schwoegler's Bowling, rolled a strike with the youth who attended (a second session takes place in August). This four-day camp is intended for those who have a love for bowling and wish to learn more. It includes classroom and on-the-lanes instruction and fun bowling.

More than 1,500 seniors participate in a wide range of Goodman-Rotary 50+ fitness classes including Pilates, yoga, walking, golf, Tai Chi, tennis and many more.
