Vol. I No. 8 - July/August, 2006
On June 6th, four graduating seniors were recognized for their high school achievements and each was presented with a $1,000 check to help with their continuing studies.
During high school all recipients maintained high academic standings while being involved and highly successful in sports and musical groups. They were also active volunteers, often tutoring other students, and most held part-time jobs. Their essays and recommendations all reflected the breadth of involvement and their determination to work hard to succeed.
All of these students received individual Reading Recovery tutoring as first graders during the 1994-95 school year. All have been accepted at UW-Madison or branches of the University System with plans to study engineering, teacher education, and pharmacy. Congratulations!
This is the fourth year that such scholarships have been awarded, funded by the original Endowment to the Foundation for Madison's Public Schools and by further donations from friends of Reading Recovery. $14,000 has been donated to students to help them in pursuing their dreams through post-high school studies.
