Wright Middle: Marc Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League, visited Wright Middle School in September. Mr. Morial encouraged students to give their best every day, to respect their classmates and neighbors, and to start thinking about their future. Pictured is Mark Morial with Wright Principal Nancy Evans taken under the portrait of the school's namesake, Rev. James C. Wright. Also pictured is Mr. Morial leading a quiz show with students during an assembly in the gymnasium.

Hamilton Middle and West High: Future Problem Solving students from Hamilton Middle (pictured) and West High excelled at the International Future Problem Solving Competition held June 1-5 in Fort Collins, CO. The sixth grade problem solving team of Claudia Kaiser, Charlie Kritter, Nikki Niewold and Margaret Shavlik earned third place. Ross Perkel placed first in the Scenario Writing Competition. The Hamilton students are coached by Kris Bauer. The West High School team of tenth graders Hannah Creager, Reuben Henriques, Thomas Otsby and Eleanor Wroblewski earned fourth place in the senior division. They are coached by Lynn Buckmaster.

Huegel Elementary Soars "Above the Line" Huegel celebrated their first month of school using the "Above the Line" behavior program with an all school assembly featuring a hot air balloon! Prior to the assembly, students worked to create individual balloons defining what "Above the Line" behavior looks like and decorated the building with their own balloons. The assembly kicked off an all-school positive behavior initiative in which students will earn parts of a balloon when they are caught demonstrating appropriate school behaviors. Principal David Bray and support staff joined him to soar about 30 feet "Above the Line" at the assembly.

Falk Elementary: On October 1st the 15th Annual Canterbury Run/Walk for Literacy was held. Proceeds benefit the Madison Area Literacy Council. Falk had 45+ people who participated in the walk. Pictured are some of the Falk participants on the sunny Saturday morning prior to the event.

Muir Elementary - Muir Staff "Olympics" a treat for students In May, Muir staff and parents brainstormed to come up with at fun treat for all the students that would highlight healthy activities. Led by the Muir PTO, Muir staff formed teams and competed in several "athletic" events, including relay races, with ping pong balls on spoons; tricycle races; and a hula hoop endurance competition. Students made posters supporting their favorite team, assembled on the Muir lawn and cheered on their favorite "staff athletes." The competition ended with both teams earning a "cream pie" which, unexpectedly, landed on principal, Linda Kailin. It was an afternoon of cheering and camaraderie that the students (and the principal) won't soon forget. Pictured: (l-r) Julie D'Onofrio, Maureen Ellsworth, Ann Velden in the tricycle event.

Van Hise Celebrates 50th Anniversary On September 15th, the Van Hise Elementary and Hamilton Middle communities celebrated 50 years of educating students living in the area. Along with Hill Farm neighbors, students and staff gathered for a neighborhood Brat Bash complete with a '50s band! The music provided by Marcy and the Highlights provided the perfect back drop for conversation, dancing, and just spending time together. All who attended agreed it was the perfect way to end 50 years and begin another 50 years of learning and growing together.
