MSCR 2006 Annual Awards Celebration

MSCR held the 2006 Award Celebration on September 20 at the Madison Sheraton Hotel. The awards are given to honor those who have provided outstanding service to MSCR. Award RecipientsOutstanding Program Achievement — Arthur Richardson, for his talented work with elementary, middle and high school afterschool programs and special events Special Service — Jim Nye, for 28 years of service as a Softball Umpire, Basketball Official and Basketball Supervisor MMSD Staff Recognition Award — Jim Pliner, Boyce Hodge, Kurt Gundlach and Tim Ritchie; High School Athletic Directors, for their support and cooperation with the new high school sports programs Community Support Award — UW Sports Medicine, for outstanding commitment to the Goodman-Rotary 50+ Fitness Aquatics Program Director's Awards — John Burkholder, Midvale Elementary School Principal, for his support of Safe Haven Child Care and other afterschool and enrichment opportunities Rookie of the Year — Julie Ewing, Goodman-Rotary 50 + Fitness, for her enthusiasm and dedication Volunteer of the Year — Joe Tannerbauer, volunteer manager and recruiter of adult softball teams
Honorable MentionsChristopher Smith — for his work with the Youth Basketball Clinic Madison Fire Department and Safe Community Coalition — for their partnership with Safety Town Noodles & Company — for supporting the 3v3 Youth Soccer Leagues Mike Esser - La Follette High Lead Custodian, for his cooperation with and preparation for MSCR programs and special events Dan Oakland — for 11 years of service as a downhill ski volunteer Board of Education members Johnny Winston, Jr. and Arlene Silveira, Friends of MSCR Board members, and MSCR Advisory Committee members co-presented the awards with staff. John Probst served as the emcee. The event was sponsored by Durham School Service, M & I Marshall & Ilsley Bank, Rite-Way Leasing and Madison Youth Activities. Beauty Blossoms and Brennan's on University Avenue donated the corsages and decorations.
