News and information for staff members and the Madison community
Vol. II No. 1 - October 19, 2006
The Board of Education approved the construction of a new cafeteria at Leopold Elementary School. Daniels Construction was the low bidder for a total project cost of $2,008,000. This project also includes the renovation of the old LMC area and the old cafeteria for use as classroom space to temporarily relieve overcrowding. This phase two work is not scheduled to start until the summer of 2007.
The cafeteria work is on schedule to be complete December 29, 2006. This will allow students and staff to use the new cafeteria after the winter break. The addition includes air conditioning, providing a comfortable venue for after school meetings and activities all year around. The project also includes all new lunch tables and adequate space to serve all students in two lunch periods.
The City of Madison cooperated with MMSD in allowing for construction access through the park land. This avoided a safety issue with vehicle crossing the playground. The temporary construction entrance is on Traceway Court, creating a much safer condition for construction during the school year. For more information, go to the Building Services web site.
The picture with this story illustrates the progress as of October 11.
