A teacher trainer's view of Infinite Campus

Tina Krouth, MMSD IC teacher trainer (Whitehorse MS)

Last summer I was fortunate to participate in a project with a core group of MMSD teachers, the Infinite Campus Teacher Trainers.

We were initially trained to use the features of Infinite Campus most commonly used by teachers, and then we collaborated to create a curriculum to instruct teachers district-wide.

Throughout the month of August, we trained nearly 400 ambitious teachers and 80 enthusiastic school-based teacher contacts to efficiently access student information, take attendance, record behavior incidents, and use the Infinite Campus gradebook. We've provided additional training for teachers this fall as requested by specific schools.

Learning how to use the new software and working with teachers to help them become confident users was a phenomenal experience and reinforced my belief that teachers want what is most helpful to students and parents in their educational journey.

Although the software can not solve all of our data issues, Infinite Campus is a tremendous improvement to the previous AS400; from the standpoint of a teacher, having access to student information wherever there is an internet connection is invaluable.

This article would not be complete without extending gratitude to the team in Research & Evaluation. Learning to use new software is often a challenging process, and we could not ask for a more supportive implementation team.
