Three Four MMSD items make the Sesquicentennial Time Capsule

To celebrate Madison's 150 years of existence, a sesquicentennial time capsule has been developed by the City of Madison. It contains dozens of items that each describes an aspect of Madison life - 2006.

Over 200 items were nominated to go into the time capsule, but only 105 were selected. Four items (not three, as we originally said,) from the Madison School District were chosen:

  • MMSD Staff Directory
  • James C. Wright Middle School Yearbook
  • Spring Harbor Middle School Yearbook
  • A DVD made by the Cherokee Middle School AV Club called "Can You Say Sesquicentennial?"

The Staff Directory and the DVD were selected in an online voting gallery where each received over 3200 votes, while the two yearbooks were selected by the Mayor's Time Capsule Jury.

Congratulations to students and staff at Wright and Spring Harbor who submitted their yearbooks, to Quentin and Bryan Johnson of Cherokee who entered the DVD, and to Gale MacWilliams in Public Information who submitted the Staff Directory.

The four items plus all the other memorabilia were officially sealed in the capsule on November 16. The capsule will reside at the Overture Center until 2056 when it's opened for Madison's Bicentennial.
