| Complications | Sinus congestion or earache | Bronchitis, pneumonia; can be life-threatening |
| Prevention | None | Annual vaccination; amantadine or rimantadine (antiviral drugs) |
| Treatment | Only temporary relief of symptoms | Amantadine or rimantadine within 24-48 hours after onset of symptoms |
