Jan Deadman, family & consumer education teacher, East HS
Jan Deadman is a legend at East High School. She has
taught family and consumer education for 35 years and currently serves as
Department Chairperson. Jan initiated the PEP(Peers Educating Peers)
Program, providing young people the opportunity to provide leadership and
communication skills via community based volunteer projects. She also has
been a pioneer in Child Development classes including Careers with Children
classes. Jan has touched so many lives in her career at East.
Bill Gibson, East HS
After graduating from UW-Madison, Bill traveled and worked with social justice groups around the
world before beginning his teaching career at East in 2002. He currently
teaches World History and The United States and the World Today where his
students benefit from his worldly travels. He is the advisor for Madison
East Students for Freedom And Peace and Spoken Word student organizations.
His latest endeavor was to secure grant funding for the establishment of
the new Multicultural Center at East High School.
Jane Koval, physical education teacher, Van Hise ES
Jane Koval's Physical Education curriculum promotes life long healthy
living activities for Van Hise Students. Her units of instruction
culminate in meaningful demonstration opportunities such as roller blading
field trips, Hip Hop Performance, and Circus Shows. Parents and students
love the opportunities for students to show off their new skills.
Vicky Brennen, Orchard Ridge Elementary
Vicky changes the lives of young readers at Orchard Ridge Elementary School. She
is extremely dedicated and a master of her craft continuously searching for
what will work for the students she teaches. Her gentle touch and positive
presence help to make ORE a great place to work and learn.
