News and information for staff members and the Madison community
Vol. II No. 4 - January 29, 2007
We're trying something a little different this month for Who's Who. After four years of recognizing staff members, can you recognize school mascots? Not the Purgolders, Lancers, Spartans and Regents — that's too easy!
Here are six pictures of elementary and middle school mascots along with a description given by the principal about what each mascot means to their school. Can you match the mascots to their school?
The six mascots this month are from Chavez, Glendale, Huegel and Lowell Elementary Schools and Sherman and Wright Middle Schools.
Answers are given below.
Topper the Tiger This tiger mascot has a name — Topper. Topper appears each Friday afternoon for Friday Boogie and dances with the students. The tiger has a full costume and students don it all the time for special events. Even the principal gets to be Topper once in a while.

Panther This school has a drawing of the Panther in the school gym. It is a symbol of strength, respect, and pride. At special assemblies throughout the school year the school recognizes and honors students and staff who exemplify the characteristics of the mascot.

The Cheetahs This mascot is relatively new and was voted on and chosen by the students. It denotes the school is fast and agile — just like the three Cheetahs in the school office!

Eagles The eagle has been the mascot when the school was built 40 years ago. It is prominently displayed in the entry hallway so that all who enter the building see it. It represents the pride and beauty of the school and the students.

The Falcon This mascot was redesigned by a student in 2000-01 and appears in a gym and a stairwell at the school. The Falcon is used on spirit wear items, the school newsletter and the student newspaper is called the Falcon Times. Each month Falcon Pride Awards are given to students recognizing their achievements.

Lizards This is a brand new mascot voted on by the students at the same time as their school colors. The Lizard is used by the PTO as a "brand name" on fundraising products. The new mascot appears on school postcards sent home to families.
