Bill O'Neal, Jefferson Middle

DSA Award Recipient — Middle School Teachers

This is a guy who knows the ropes, so to speak. Bill O'Neal is a 33-year veteran teacher with war wounds and credentials to prove it.

You'd think he was a peachy-faced first-year educator, given his enthusiasm for jumping into groundbreaking educational practices. Bill has consistently been at the forefront of his profession. His Jefferson Middle School science classes are interactive, challenging and a delight to learners.

Always a learner himself, Bill has participated in regional and national science trainings and shared his learning at District summer institutes.

His exuberance for teaching and learning is like a big warm blanket enveloping students, staff and parents.

A true master educator, Bill's service to children has led him deep into caves, on canoe trips, and into the business community.

A generous individual, Bill volunteers for tasks big and small — implementing new District software, attending PTO meetings, acting as stage manager for the Follies and even troubleshooting the copy machine.

In recognition of his contributions to his profession, Bill O'Neal received the UW's prestigious Rockwell Award for service to student teachers.
