Ann Lacy, Lowell Elementary

DSA Award Recipient — Citizen, Single School

From every corner of Lowell Elementary School the name Ann Lacy is synonymous with community-building and caring.

For the past seven years, Ann has been deeply committed to the success of Lowell School and its students, through her work as treasurer of the Lowell Home and School Association and coordinator of events such as the Spring Carnival, t-shirt sales, coffee sales, Scholastic Book Fair, Teacher Appreciation and Family Fun Nights. Quietly and without fanfare she pulls off amazing feats of organization and planning.

She maintains a daily presence at her school, distributing flyers, recruiting volunteers and caring for all children as she cares for her own. Ann's institutional memory and big picture perspective are priceless assets.

A conscientious citizen, Ann served on the District's East Attendance Area Task Force and became affiliated with the Worthington Park Neighborhood Association in order to broaden her understanding of economic, sociological and political context of her school.

Ann is most respected for her diplomacy and gentility in weathering the storm. In every situation Ann stays focused on what's best for all members of her community. She asks the hard questions and sets a positive tone for the discussion.

Ann Lacy is a model of effective parent involvement and a most deserving recipient of this award.
