Ed Carberry, Mendota Elementary

DSA Award Recipient — Custodial/Building Services

At Mendota Elementary's community breakfasts a very friendly, familiar face stands out in the crowd.

Custodian Ed Carberry is busy working with great efficiency in the tasks that keep building staff constantly moving.

But don't be fooled, what makes Ed special, is the way he takes time for each child, and makes every person in the school feel supported.

He knows every child's name, and knows who needs attention.

Safety, organization and cleanliness are trademarks of Ed's territory. He wears his dedication to quality like a crown. It's one reason kids look up to him and staff sings his praises.

Knowledgeable and detailed in District procedure, he's been unflappable during crises, dependable and flexible during overwhelming school-wide events and sharp as a tack when it comes to creating a happy, healthy environment for learners.

Carpenters, electricians and painters are happy to arrive at Mendota knowing Ed will be ready with his house in order. Sought out for advice by fellow building services staff, Ed is generous and unassuming.

He is focused on the big picture. An active participant in Equity initiatives, and an outstanding model for positive behavior in every word and deed, Ed Carberry is indeed distinguished.
