News and information for staff members and the Madison community
Vol. II No. 7 - May 3, 2007
Approximately 3,700 students participate every year in summer school — made up of Extended Learning Summer School, enrichment and high school classes.
From "Concepts about Print" for students entering kindergarten, to the enrichment course CSI: Madison, to SAT/ACT preparation for students getting ready for college, summer school offers wonderful opportunities to students.
Madison School & Community Recreation program offers afternoon programming for students attending the morning Extended Learning Summer School. Over 1600 students were served in this program last summer.
Summer school also represents cooperation in that MMSD staff from many departments coordinate services and work together. Setting up transportation routes for the seven sites, providing breakfast and lunches, mass mailing of invitation letters to qualified students, hiring 250 teaching staff and providing professional development the week before summer school all require unique cooperation. It really takes a district effort to make this a successful program.
For the summer of 2007, Extended Learning Summer School will be offered to students who qualify from across the district. In the past, K-Ready and 3rd through 5th grade were only available to students in Title I schools. For summer 2007, all students meeting criteria will be able to attend.
Extended Learning Summer School information is available by clicking here and on the dww under Student Services.
For students in kindergarten through 7th grade, invitation letters to students were sent out April 30th. All summer registration forms are due May 14 to Research and Evaluation, Doyle.
Thanks to all the staff who help families get the forms in on time.
Information about enrichment courses is included in the MSCR Summer
Program Guide (see it

). Information was also sent on April 30 to all high school
students.
I look forward to another excellent summer school.
