Vol. I No. 1 - November 18, 2005
If you hold a professional educator license that is expiring in 2006 or 2007 you have a unique opportunity to renew your license under the provisions of PI 34 Professional Development Plan (PDP) on an abbreviated schedule. The PDP must be completed and submitted by January of 2006 for those whose license expires in 2006. If you license runs out in 2007 you have a year to get the plan completed.
Ordinarily the PDP is a five year plan. For those whose license runs out in 2006 or 2007 the PDP is a plan for 6 months to one year. This is a significant opportunity for anyone who has yet to accumulate the credits necessary for license renewal. Even if you've already accumulated some of the credits for license renewal those credits may be used as evidence of activities in your PDP.
Madison Metropolitan School District in collaboration with the University of Wisconsin School of Education and with the support of the Department of Public Instruction has created an option to complete the Professional Development Plan on line. By using the electronic Professional Development Plan (ePDP) all the resources of the district that you need to write the plan are right before you. Your ePDP is stored on line at the University of Wisconsin School of Education.
The contents of the completed PDP must be officially verified by a team of three (3) professional educators who have been trained by the DPI. A small cohort of administrators and teachers in the MMSD has been trained as PDP team reviewers. If you choose to complete the ePDP the verification process is facilitated by the district and remains anonymous.
Go to http://www.mmsd.org, click the link to Professional Development and get registered to work on your ePDP. If you are interested in working with a writing group on your ePDP, please contact Loren Rathert at lrathert@madison.k12.wi.us or call at 3-5266.
Since 1982, the Madison Metropolitan School District has recognized the exceptional work of its staff and volunteers with the annual Distinguished Service Award. It's time again to nominate outstanding people for this important honor. Someone you know has been a tireless worker...a leader...an innovator or a team player and deserves a Distinguished Service Award. The nomination process is simple. Answer five questions, each response in 200 words or less, and collect three letters of support explaining why your nominee exemplifies distinguished service.
