Honors for Lowell and Sandburg Schools, named New Wisconsin Promise Schools of Recognition

Lowell and Sandburg Elementary Schools have met the specific criteria set by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction to become a New Wisconsin Promise School of Recognition. It's the third consecutive year Lowell has been so honored.

The award recognizes schools that:

  • are Title I-eligible,
  • are in the top quartile of the state for free/reduced lunch percentages,
  • have above-average student academic performance scores on the WKCE in reading and math, and when compared to similar schools, and
  • have met adequate yearly progress (AYP) for the past two years.

In the top photo, Sandburg Principal Mike Deignan and School wide Title Facilitator Barb Gerlach accept an award from Department of Public Instruction Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster recognizing Sandburg as a School of Recognition.

In the lower photo, Burmaster presents the plaque to Lowell Principal Lisa Kvistad, Cross Categorical and Instructional Resource Teacher Kay Arnold and 2/3 Multiage Teacher Sharon Potrykus.

Each school also receives $1,500 for use by the school for any school-related activity.

Congratulations to the students, staff, and parents of the Sandburg and Lowell School communities!
