MSCR 2007 Award recipients

 

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) held the Annual Awards Celebration on September 19 at the Madison Sheraton. The awards are given to honor those who have provided outstanding service to MSCR. The event was sponsored by Friends of MSCR with support from Beauty Blossoms and Brennan's on University. Tim Saterfield, Friends of MSCR President, served as emcee and Robin Nathan, MSCR Citizens' Advisory Committee, gave the Welcoming Remarks.

2007 Award Recipients


Joel Minkoff & Steve Morrison from the Madison Jewish Community Council, Jim Lins, Marcia Standiford, Tim Saterfield, Clay Yapp, Leah Miller, David Pike and Brian Rusk

Outstanding Program Achievement — Leah Miller, Adaptive Power Soccer
Leah has been instrumental to the success of the adaptive soccer program. She initiated the program's formation, researched the sport's rules, and assisted in the planning. The program has grown to three seasons and teams have competed in Midwest competitions.

Special Service Award — Jim Lins, Adult Sports and Fitness Supervisor
Jim has worked as a dependable sports official for more than 20 years for basketball, softball and volleyball. Jim is responsible, steady, unflappable and loyal. He makes sure teams have a good time and is a good role model for new officials.

Special Service Award — Sara Knutson, Wright Youth Resource Center
Sara is an outstanding staff person whose first thought is always what is best for the youth. She has served numerous capacities at the center working as a program leader, educational leader, tutor coordinator and assistant director for the summer program. Sara has a phenomenal rapport with youth across all ethnic and economic backgrounds, motivating students to participate in any afterschool program.

MMSD Staff Recognition Award - Marcia Standiford, MMSD TV Station Manager
Marcia and her staff produce a series of television programs that feature a variety of MSCR activities. She also had the idea to create a new longer commercial for MSCR activities called "Post Cards from MSCR." Post Cards allow the TV viewer to feel like they are actually at the MSCR program. Marcia is wonderful to work with, always thinking of a new angle to promote MSCR. The department also films many MSCR special events.

Community Support Award — Madison Jewish Community Council, Goodman Aquatic Center
In 2002, MSCR entered into a unique contract with the Madison Jewish Community Council to manage the outdoor swimming pool. This allowed MSCR the ability to offer outdoor public swimming lessons and other aquatics programs.

Rookie of the Year — Brian Rusk, Camp Summit Director
Brian supervised and led high school students in adventure-based activities and overnight camping trips. He was an effective leader facing challenges in stride, and making sure that all campers had an enjoyable summer.

Junior Rookie of the Year - Clay Yapp, Mendota Safe Haven
Clay is a Mendota Elementary graduate who volunteered at the Mendota Safe Haven Child Care program. This summer he became a Junior Leader and was well liked by staff and children.

Director's Award — Tim Saterfield, Friends of MSCR
Tim has served as an active volunteer for MSCR for more than 10 years. He began as a MSCR Citizen's Advisory Committee member, and in 2001, helped staff form the Friends of MSCR, a non-profit which raises money for MSCR. Friends has awarded $24,000 in grants to MSCR activities. Tim has been instrumental to the organization's growth.

Volunteer of the Year — David Pike, Pontoon Volunteer
David worked 140 hours his first summer as a volunteer boat driver. He often offered to work additional trips which were short staffed. He is energetic and enthusiastic, and he also serves on the Pontoon Steering Committee.
