Meet the New Aristos Scholars for 2007-08

Aristos Scholars are selected by two methods. They may be nominated, or they may be selected based upon the quality of their Aristos grant implementation.

Eleven new Aristos Scholars joined the AristosAcademyin 2007-08. Six were selected based upon the quality of their Aristos grant implementation and four were nominated. One new Scholar was nominated as well as the author of a successful grant implementation. Scholars serve a three-year term. Each edition of MMSD Today will feature a new scholar.

Tara Affolter
Tara is an East High School English and Theatre Arts teacher. She used her $5,448 Aristos grant to create a CulturalCenter. The CulturalCenter offers academic, emotional and cultural support as proactive measures to address feelings of isolation and alienation often found in a large high school. There is programming for students to explore their own heritage, ethnic backgrounds, and histories while also learning about experiences that differ from their own. Guest artists and community members conducted workshops and performances with and for students.
