New school news: Emmerich to be principal, construction on schedule, answers for parent questions

by

Pam Emmerich has been selected as the principal for the new elementary school on the West side. Emmerich, currently the assistant principal at Chavez Elementary, will continue to serve in that position while her work planning for the new school's September opening begins this month.

Since Pam came to the MMSD in 1994, she's taught at Sennett Middle and Elvehjem Elementary, been a principal intern for one year, been the principal at Lindbergh Elementary for four years and been the assistant principal at Chavez for three years.

She has a degree in Elementary Education from UW-Eau Claire, and a Masters in Education Administration from UW-Madison.

Construction of the new building is progressing as scheduled. Heavy snows and freezing rains in December have presented some challenges, particularly with installing the roof. However, Miron Construction added several laborers to shovel off the metal roof deck so the final roof installation could progress.

The roof trusses for the library and gymnasium arrived last week. This is the final structural component left for installation. All parties are looking toward an early February date, when the A-wing will be enclosed, and interior work can begin.

Despite the schedule adjustments made to compensate for the weather, construction leaders are still forecasting a completion date of early July. This gives ample time to perform building commissioning and final move in.

Meanwhile, even though the boundaries for the new school's attendance area have not been determined, parents of potential students are asking questions about the number of students, bus routes, school schedule, and much more.

All the answers to these frequently asked questions can be seen by clicking here.
