ROCKWELL AWARD NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR OUTSTANDING COOPERATING TEACHERSDo you know an outstanding cooperating teacher? The Roland and Ruth Rockwell Awards provide an opportunity to bring recognition to that person. Four awards of $1000 will be given to teachers selected for their contribution to the University of Wisconsin-Madison field experience program. The award recipients will be honored at the annual University of Wisconsin School of Education Partners in Education Banquet held in conjunction with American Education Week, November 16-22, 2008. The Fall 2007 Rockwell Award recipients were Lee Heggelund, Savanna Oaks Middle School, Verona Area School District, and Jane Koval, Van Hise Elementary School, Co-Recipients Barbara Perkins and Rebecca Zutter-Brose, Muir Elementary School, and Victoria Straughn, La Follette High School, Madison Area School District. Cooperating teachers may be nominated by their administrators, peers, university faculty and supervisors or former student teachers. In the past, former student teachers' letters have been particularly persuasive. Nomination materials may be obtained at the EAS website: http://www.education.wisc.edu/eas/k12staff/Rockwells.asp, by calling Valli Warren, Education Academic Services, 262-3773, or by picking them up in B117 Education Building. Completed nomination packets should be mailed to: Rockwell Nominations, Education Academic Services, B117 Education Building, 1000 Bascom Mall, Madison, WI 53706. The nomination deadline is Friday, September 12, 2008. Deadline for the 2008 MMSD Recognition Awards nominations is Wednesday January 30th, 2008.You still have 23 days to put together a Distinguished Service Award nomination for that deserving colleague or volunteer. Just three letters of support and five questions will get your nominee terrific recognition. The Foundation for Madison's Public Schools 2008 MMSD Employee Giving Campaign will kick off on February 4! This annual campaign is in its seventh year and has provided approximately $350,000 to build individual school endowments and field of interest funds as well as support the activities of the Foundation. Last year, over 700 employees contributed over $72,000 to sustain and extend the excellence of Madison's public schools. Building captains will be making presentations at staff meetings in late January and February. Pledge materials will be distributed to all MMSD staff in the next few weeks. The campaign will run through March 7 and your participation is very much appreciated!
