8th annual Employee Giving Campaign goes through March 7
|
The Foundation for Madison's Public Schools Employee Giving Campaign is running now for five weeks — from February 4th through March 7, 2008. For MMSD staff: The Foundation is a viable way to create and sustain a source of funding for new and creative programs in the Madison School District that might not otherwise be possible due to tight fiscal constraints. The Employee Giving Campaign has provided the vehicle for teachers to make charitable contributions to the Foundation to help support these efforts. In each of the past two years, over 700 employees have contributed over $70,000 to benefit individual school endowment funds, field of interest funds and the Foundation's unrestricted grants program. Gifts also have been made to directly support the Foundation's activities as well as the general endowment. This level of participation has inspired others in the community to back the schools through the work of the Foundation. There are nearly 6000 total donors that have made contributions that support programs that make a difference in our schools and for our children. The Foundation's unrestricted grants have touched every school, whether at the school level or through district-wide initiatives. Since 2001, over $450,000 has been provided to support 70 staff/student initiated projects. Now, the individual school endowments have started to make a difference in the schools! This past November, endowment interest provided over $34,000 for creative and innovative grants at the school level. It is anticipated that over $45,000 will be available through the individual school endowments for the 2008-09 school year. This amount will continue to increase as these endowments grow.
