Cheryl Furstace Daniels, Glendale Elementary School

Cheryl Furstace Daniels, Glendale Elementary School
DSA Award Recipient — Citizen, Single School

It doesn't take a village...if you have a volunteer like Cheryl Daniels. She's built a village.

At Glendale Elementary School, this excited volunteer has made it her mission to help students learn, grow and feel a sense of pride in their school. She's pulled in her co-workers from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Production, to adopt the school, lending help wherever it is needed.

Glendale students get a great education from a great school. Cheryl Daniels wants to be a positive force in making it happen. In just two short years, Cheryl has used her amazing energy to revitalize the Glendale Publishing Center so student authors can own and share their works.

Arriving three to four times a week, for several hours at a time, Cheryl has formed important friendships with students. They know they can count on their "lunch buddy".

The Glendale staff feels valued and supported by Cheryl and her cohort. With "Project Linus" Cheryl lead one of the school's instructional teams as they taught students to make blankets for people in need.

Her enthusiasm has helped everyone to recognize and be proud of the many ways their school shines. Her example has inspired and motivated the villagers.
