Bill Currie, Shorewood Elementary
The halls of Shorewood Elementary School are a happy place. Custodian Bill Currie has a lot to do with that. It's not just the clean environment, though Bill prides himself on the shiniest floors in the MMSD. His collaboration with teachers on summer cleaning checklists ensures a good start to each school year. Bill's impact is also due to his ability as a tenacious problem-solver. He mapped out a creative plan for the new second floor bookroom and orchestrated an all-staff moving crew, minimizing downtime. When troubled spots remained in the school's new heating system Mr. Currie didn't let up until all problems were resolved. Perhaps Bill's most important contribution is his contagious personality. There's never a question that Shorewood's custodian is there for the kids. Parents praise his willingness and ingenuity in preparations for the annual Shorewood International Festival. Bill is proud to welcome the more than 1,000 community members who attend each year. Known among co-workers for his annual cookout, Bill takes a vacation day just to host a staff barbeque. A well-maintained facility, intelligent systems and an amazing ability to bring people together are Bill Currie's formula for success and his gift to Shorewood Elementary School.
