Mary Paulson, East High

Mary Paulson, East High
DSA Award Recipient — High School Teachers

Mary Paulson has a unique ability to unlock student minds with her mastery as of mathematics, and her golden touch reaches their hearts. It happens in her classroom where Mary leads students to reach high and hit the mark. It happens in the hallways where students cry out, "Look out! Ms. P is coming!" in mock-horror, and with deep affection.

Her educational background attests to her view that learning does not happen in isolation. With degrees and coursework in educational policy, instructional design and technology, multicultural education, statistics and social justice, along with National Board Certification and active participation in the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Mary Paulson is one top rate teacher.

Among her colleagues Mary is revered. She personally welcomes every new member of the East High Math department, often before they've set foot in the school. She's generous, thoughtful and innovative; the department's "secret-weapon". If you want to make something happen, just get Mary on board.

Her cheerleading spirit extends to many Purgolder events where she's a prolific school photographer and organizer of one of East High's most active service clubs. She cares tremendously about all students, and has even become "Mom" to a special few.
