Phil Hubble, Memorial High

Phil Hubble, Memorial High
DSA Award Recipient — Support Personnel

His license plate "Guidance" has little to do with vanity. It's simply a statement of philosophy. Kids, especially adolescents, need guidance.

Under the thoughtful direction of Phil Hubble, students at Memorial High have received the best in guidance counseling and personal commitment for over 14 years. He's played a key role in developing a guidance model for freshman that has been adopted at other high schools.

He was at the forefront of the smaller learning communities initiatives, developing best practice guidelines for counselors, writing a grant for high school reform and the implementing the Infinite Campus system.

Both kids and coworkers will tell you, "He's the real deal." Each person has a story to prove it.

Phil is known for being slightly obsessive when it comes to detail, daring in his willfulness when things need to get done, and unmatched in his ability to listen and bring together contrary points of view. Arriving long before and leaving long after others in the building, Phil is there, leading a 16-member pupil services team, supporting his school and caring for his students and their families.

His 32-year career with the Madison schools has earned him a permanent place in the hearts and minds of generations of Spartans.
