SKI/SNOWBOARD CLUB



YOUTH RESOURCE CENTER

The Toki Youth Resource Center is located in the Toki Middle School gym, and surrounding classrooms. The main goal of the YRC is to provide Toki students a safe place to “hang out” after school while participating in positive social, recreational, and educational activities. The YRC is FREE to all students.

INFORMATION FOR THE 2007-2008 SCHOOL YEAR:

Monday – Thursday After School Schedule

2:40-3:30 Clubs/Sports Practicies meet
3:30 - 4:10 Open Rec. in the main gyn - ALL students!
4:10 City buses arrive.
4:10-5:00 Mini-activities/Open Recreation
5:00 Late bus arrives.

*Students must participate in a homework club, specialty club, or sport activity from 2:40-3:30 if they want to attend the recreational activities in the gym from 4:10-5:00.

CLUBS -

Descriptions:

6th Grade Homework Club – academic support for 6th graders.
7th Grade Homework Club – academic support for 7th graders.
8th Grade Homework Club – academic support for 8th graders.
Art Lab – lab time for art students to create paintings to display.
Battle of the Books – students read selected books and answer trivia questions.
Chess – play chess, learn new ways to outsmart your opponent.
Drill and Dance Team – students create drills and dances together to perform as a team.
Engineering/Tech. Lab – lab time for students to work on class projects.
Gaming Club – students participate in role-playing games such as Dungeons and Dragons.
Hair Braiding – students learn new techniques for braiding hair.
Horseback Riding – beginning horseback riding lessons available through Hoofbeat Stables.
Juggling – beginning juggling lessons.
Language Mentors – 8th graders teach French and Spanish to other students.
MP4 - is a music program designed to express talents through creative writing, music production and recording original music. This club will meet every Thursday for 8 weeks and begins Thursday January 17, 2008
Standard of Excellence – academic and leadership support for male students.
Student Council – students get active in school activities.
World Language Club – students explore cultures of the world.
Yearbook Club – students work with publishing software to create the Toki yearbook.

SPEICALTY CLUBS

Ski/Snowboarding Club has begun. Check the calendar for scheduled trips!!!

Rock Climbing Club will begin the week of January 14th. Students should listen during lunch for more info.

Skateboarding Club will begin the week of January 14th. Students should listen during lunch for more info.

Juggling Club will begin the week of January 14th. Students should listen during lunch for more info.

Babysitting Certification Course will begin the week of February 4, 2008, this is a 4 week course. Students must sign up before the course begins. Forms will be available during lunch starting the week of January 21, 2008.

AFTER-SCHOOL SPORTS

After school sports are also sponsored by Madison School-Community Recreation with staff members serving as coaches. At this time the intramural sports are only available for 7th and 8th graders and all sports are co-ed.

2007-08 BATTLE OF THE BOOKS COMPETITION

Grab 3 friends, some comfy clothes, some hot chocolate and READ! Check out the Battle of the Books book list for 2007. Teams of four at each grade level will compete against other Toki teams for a chance to compete at the City level. If you don't have the books listed, you canuse either the Dane County or Toki Library to find them. See Mrs. Hoadley in the Toki LMC for more information.

SKI SNOWBOARD CLUB UPDATE

Our season depends on snow and snowmaking at Tyrol Basin and Cascade, but here are the trips planned:

January 11, 2008 * Tyrol Basin 2:40 to 9:30 pm

January 25, 2008 * Cascade 12:00 to 8:00 pm

February 7, 2008 * Tyrol 2:40 to 9:30 pm

February 21, 2008 * Tyrol 2:40 to 9:30 pm

March 7, 2008 * Tyrol 2:40 to 9:30 pm

March 28, 2008 * Tyrol 2:40 to 9:30 pm
