INTRODUCTION PAGES TO THE 2007-2008 STUDENT PLANNER
SEVERE WEATHER POLICY
In the spring of 2007, Toki took the first steps in developing a more
positive academic and behavioral environment for everyone. Over the summer,
staff collaborated on the details of a School-wide positive Behavior Support
(PBIS) Program. It is called RESPECT TOKI. This program is designed to
teach students the skills and behaviors needed to be successful at Toki
Middle School and in the future. Students are validated in a variety of
way for doing what is expected. We expect all staff and students to:
RESPECT EVERYONE
RESPECT EDUCATION
RESPECT ENVIRONMENT
These positive behaviors are positively reinforced throughout the schoolfor
the remainder of your child's middle-school career at Toki Middle School.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Attendance
Students are required to attend all classes unless they have an acceptable
excuse. A parent/guardian must call Toki’s Office/Safe Arrival Number
204-4743
no later than 9:30 AM on the day of the absence. If a call is not received
by 9:30 AM the student will be marked unexcused.
The following are acceptable reasons for absences:
* Personal illness
* Serious illness of a immediate family member
* Wedding or death in the immediate family
* Authorized religious holidays
* Medical, dental, and therapy appointments
* Planned absence
Bicycles
Bike racks are provided on the Whitney Way side of the building. All
bikes should be locked, as it is difficult to supervise this area and
guarantee bike safety.
Bus Behavior
Riding the bus is a privilege that requires respectful behavior at all
times. Unacceptable or inappropriate behavior may result in losing this
privilege. Respect everyone!
Bus Tickets/Passes
Students can purchase books of bus tickets or semester passes in the
Office before school, during lunch, and after school. A bus pass can only
be used by its owner. Students who qualify for free/reduced priced lunch
and live at least 1.5 miles from Toki Middle School qualify for free bus
transportation.
If you lose your bus pass, report it immediately to the Office. The pass
will be cancelled, and you will have to wait 3 days to get the replacement.
There is a fee for the replacement.
Dress and Appearance for Students
Students are expected to dress appropriately for school. If staff member
determines a student’s dress is disruptive to school, the student
will be expected to change or cover their clothing.
Drop Off & Pick Up
Parents and students who drive to school should use the designated area
on Whitney Way .
Electronic Devices
To avoid disrupting school and possible theft, students are encouraged
to leave all radios, phones, CD players, MP3 players, and games at home.
If it is necessary to carry one of these items, it is expected that it
is turned off and put away when you walk in the door. If a student is
observed with one of these items during the school day, it can be held
by the teacher or Office staff until the end of that day. At times it
may be necessary for the student’s parent/guardian to pick up the
item. Toki Middle School is not responsible for missing or stolen items.
Homework Requests
Homework for students who are ill for more than one day may be requested
at the same time the absence is reported. Teachers will be notified and
assignments can be picked up after 3:30 PM in the Main Office.
Late Arrival Passes
Students arriving after 8:30 AM must check in at the Office for a pass.
Lockers
Hall lockers are assigned by school staff, one student per locker. School
locks, purchased at registration or from the Office, should be used at
all times.
Physical Education lockers are assigned by PE staff. School locks, purchased
at registration or from the Office, should be used at all times.
Keeping your combination confidential, using your lock, and not sharing
your locker are the best ways to keep your belongings secure. Toki Middle
School is not responsible for items stored in lockers.
Lost and Found
The Lost and Found Box is located outside of the Office. Please turn
in all found items to the Office immediately.
Office Hours
During the school year the Office is open from 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM.
Office Services
Available at the Office are bus tickets, school locks, passes for late
arrivals, school district forms (Outside Permits, Withdrawal Form, Registration
Forms, Application for Free/Reduced Price School Meals).

note from their parent/guardian indicating the time and reason for leaving.
The student should take this note to the Main Office before 7:35 AM to
receive an outside permit. Upon reporting back to school, the student
reports directly to the Office to receive a pass to class.

2 days must bring a note signed by the parent /guardian to the office
at least two days prior to the absence. We will then issue a Planned Absence
Form to the student for their teachers to sign. This form is then turned
in to the Office for final approval.

to carry them at all times for:
* personal identification

support staff during breaks or before/after school to make an appointment.
