Welcome to Thoreau Elementary School, Madison, WI Thoreau Elementary School is located on the west side of Madison and serves 400 children in grades K - 5. We are a child-centered school where staff, parents, students, and community members work together to create a model learning environment for all students. Thoreau Elementary is also a Professional Development School. Our dedicated staff works in partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Madison to train a select group of future teachers each year. Mission StatementHenry David Thoreau Elementary School, celebrating the diversity of our learning community in harmony with each other and the environment, will provide and challenge each child, with an education needed to be a life-long learner and a competent, responsible world citizen, through a partnership of families, staff, and community within a multicultural and inclusive curriculum.
