Purpose
The Madison Metropolitan School District's World Wide Web provides an
opportunity for sharing and showcasing exemplary student work with other
students, parents, staff, and the global community. Teacher's
responsibility, quality indicators and publishing procedures have been
identified to offer guidelines and expectations for exemplary student
work.
Teacher's Responsibility
- Use the checklist of Quality Indicators for the specific work to be
published.
- Obtain written parental permission to include the work on the Web. (See
permission form.)
- Inform principals about student work to be published on the Web.
- Submit student work to a certified Web Publisher.
- Check the website after the work has been posted to verify that it
appears correctly.
- Read and be familiar with the district Publishing Guidelines. (See
below.)
Quality Indicators for Student Work
Use the following check list to verify quality of student work for Web
publication:
- Written work has been evaluated by the
6-Trait Analytical
Model (or other appropriate writing assessment method) and meets
criteria. Exemplary student work will have a score of 5 in conventions and
4 or 5 in at least two other traits.
- IDEAS
- ORGANIZATION
- VOICE
- WORD CHOICE
- SENTENCE FLUENCY
- CONVENTIONS (score of 5 ONLY)
- Copyrighted materials, including graphics, are not included without the
permission from the copyright holder.
- Content is reviewed for accuracy and appropriateness.
- Citations of resources are included.
- Internet resources have been evaluated for reliability.
- Links to other web sites have been verified as acceptable content.
- Student work reflects principles of good design and appropriateness.
- Written permission from the student's parent or guardian has been
received.
Publishing Procedures and Guidelines
- Only MMSD Certified Web Publishers may post Web pages on MMSD Web
server.
- Web pages with student work will include the teacher's name and e-mail
address.
- Web pages representing a MMSD school shall reside on the District's Web
server.
- Web pages shall contain appropriate material, free of commercial
advertising.
- All links should be verified as connecting only to appropriate
material.
- District Web pages are subject to review and possible removal, in order
to be consistent with District policies and guidelines.
- Only exemplary student work will be published. Other work can be
displayed within individual classrooms and buildings.
- For legal reasons, permission slips
are required anytime student work is published on the Web.
- Student work will be displayed for a reasonable amount of time,
appropriate to the project.
- When material is challenged, MMSD has a process for review.
