October 2, 1996 was groundbreaking day for James Colemon Wright Middle School. Years in the making, the day was an important one for members of the Madison community. On hand for the ceremonies were: Reverend James C. Wright's widow Jackie, MMSD Superintendent Cheryl Wilhoyte, former School Board member Jerry Smith, Equal Opportunities Commission Representative Anthony Brown, Dane County Board Supervisor Regina Rhyne, Madison Mayor Paul Soglin, as well as dozens of students, parents and community leaders.

Take a visual tour of the buidling while reading design feedback provided by current students and staff. Learn more about the striking mural of The Great Migration displayed in grandeur on the first floor of the school. Or gain insight into the construction phase of the school from Colemon Wright (son of Reverend James C. Wright) of TriNorth Builders.
