"The rationale for developing a charter school is that the concept allows for greater optional flexibility in planning creative programs which focus on learning as the constant and time as the variable." -Madison Metro School District

James C. Wright Middle School opened in 1994 as Madison Middle School 2000 under a charter granted by the Madison (WI) Metropolitan School District. It was to operate under three guiding principles:

  1. A thematic, integrated, & multicultural curriculum
  2. Technology integrated throughout the curriculum
  3. Engaged stakeholders sharing school governance

While the direction of the school has changed over time, it still boasts a 15:1 student to staff ratio with 30 full time and 10 part time staff serving a total of 240 ethnically, racially, and socioeconomically diverse students.
