"The
rationale for developing a charter school is that the concept allows
for greater optional flexibility in planning creative programs which
focus on learning as the constant and time as the variable."

James
C. Wright Middle School opened in 1994 as Madison Middle School
2000 under a charter granted by the Madison
(WI) Metropolitan School District. It was to operate under three
guiding principles:
- A
thematic, integrated, & multicultural curriculum
- Technology
integrated throughout the curriculum
- Engaged
stakeholders sharing school governance
While
the direction of the school has changed over time, it still boasts
a 15:1 student to staff ratio with 30 full time and 10 part time
staff serving a total of 240 ethnically, racially, and socioeconomically
diverse students.
