Community Partnerships: University of Wisconsin

The University of Wisconsin Medical School is committed to developing a program to help middle school students develop an interest in science and in careers in theStudents dlook on at a human hear. health sciences. Most science educators believe that we have to reach students at an earlier age than we have in the past (typically high school), if they are to become serious about their science studies and goals. This small program is a start

  • to introduce the students to professionals who work in the health sciences and;
  • to interest the students in science by giving live demonstrations, and;
  • to show the relevance of their studies to the real world of health and medicine.

Physicians visit the class to discuss the circulatory system, witness a HUMAN EYE dissection and do some activities on the nervous system. Activities with the Tobacco Research Center are also being developed.
