Principal's View: Assessment

Wisconsin laws require all school districts to administer state-provided tests to almost every student in four grade levels each year. Students at Wright take several exams:

  • Stanford Diagnostic-This exam assesses students' reading abilities. It is given at both the beginning and end of the school year to all sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. The Stanford Diagnostic Reading Test is intended to diagnose student strengths and weaknesses in the major components of the reading process. Test items are divided by type: recreational, textual, functional and by mode: initial understanding, interpretation, critical analysis, and process strategies.
  • Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Exam-This exam is administered to eighth grade students at Wright in the Spring. All Wisconsin school districts report their scores to the State of Wisconsin and are publicly available at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction site. This table provides direct links to aggregated testing data. Disaggregated data is available at the DPI site.
